Week 3: Mad Science

Category: 3D Printing, Chemistry, Engineering, Marine Biology, Science, STEM, Summer Camp

Happy Tuesday everyone, we hope everyone had a good 4th of July! Thanks to those campers who spent the short week with us here at EIS for week 3! Although we missed a camp day and didn’t have a field trip, there was no lack of fun during last week’s theme of Mad Science! In Engineering students got to see if their structures could withstand an earthquake, they tested levels of PH in Chemistry, built shipwreck ecosystems in Marine Biology, and learned about food webs in Ecology. We want to give a special thank you to our guest speakers from UV&Me. Using a special app to age their skin, students were able to gain a glimpse of what their skin would look like depending on varying levels of sun exposure. It was a highly informative and interactive presentation which ensured that the students understood the importance of sun protection. Of course we couldn’t have our Mad Science theme without Crazy Hair Day! Students arrived at EIS on Friday morning with their wacky hair designs and plenty of excitement to end their STEM-filled week.

Although we had a short week at EIS, students had a blast rotating through all their science labs!

Stay connected for the upcoming week where students explore Booming Biology and we take an adventurous field trip to the Living Coast Discovery Center!
