High school students have the opportunity to talk with local scientists and engineers about current cutting-edge ideas in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) in a relaxed and informal setting.
The Southeast SD Teen STEAM Café is deeply committed to social justice. They provide free events where teens can socialize over food and refreshments while delving into current issues—aligned with the UN Sustainable Goals—that impact their local community. Through a scientific lens, they examine these topics, connect with local STEM experts, conduct community meetings to share and gather insights, and present their findings to elected officials.
The Teen STEAM Café leadership team, draws inspiration from both STEAM and social justice perspectives and meets regularly during the school year to curate STEAM Cafes for their peers. In the process, they hone their leadership skills. If you’re passionate about these ideals and are interested in joining the Leadership Team, we encourage you to apply.
