Steps-2-STEM is a STEM enrichment program that expands access to high quality STEM learning opportunities for elementary students in the Lincoln cluster.
Overview
Once a week 4th and 5th grade students from SDUSD Lincoln cluster elementary schools visit the Elementary Institute of Science. Students rotate through four STEM labs, where they engage in hands-on learning in subjects such as earth & space science, physical science, life science, computer science, engineering, and more. Each session lasts five weeks, with the goal of immersing students in the equivalent of 20-25 hours of STEM learning.

1st Year Highlights
Steps-2-STEM launched during the 2016-17 academic year. Since its launch, school engagement, student reach, and stakeholder enthusiasm have shown the program to be an immensely positive asset for southeast San Diego’s STEM community.
STUDENT REACH:
363 students participated in at least one Steps-2-STEM session, which make up 54% of all the fourth and fifth graders in partner schools.
