Camps

An opportunity for students (grades 2-8) to immerse themselves in STEM learning during school breaks. Students explore a wide range of STEM content areas while building skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.

Multi-day themed Camp programs are offered during Thanksgiving, Spring, and Summer Breaks. Students rotate through different hands-on STEM lab activities daily. All camps include a presentation by a guest STEM professional. Summer and Spring Break Camps include a field trip.

Limited scholarships are available for some programs.

SUMMER OF STEM CAMP 2025

Choose from one or all four fun-filled weeks of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM)! Each week includes an exciting field trip and presentations from guest scientists. At EIS, our instructors have current expertise in science, technology, and engineering and are trained to ensure every student has a positive experience.

WEEK 1: VOYAGERS OF FLIGHT – June 9-13

This week introduces students to the concept of flight from wildlife, which in turn inspires our own human voyage through the friendly skies.

  • Discovering how birds, insects, and mammals use flight.
  • Understanding the power of gravity using parachutes, drones, and airplanes.
  • Experimenting with elements of flight – clouds, atmosphere, wind, and climate.

WEEK 2: GUARDIANS OF OUR OCEANS – June 16-20 (No camp June 19th in observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday)

This week is centered on ocean wildlife study, marine life, and the effects of climate change and pollution.

  • Learning in our kelp forests, predators and prey, and communication.
  • Understanding our ocean currents, ocean zones, and the wildlife that inhabits them.
  • Ways we can protect our oceans by minimizing plastic pollution, acidification, watersheds, and oil spills.

WEEK 3: BEYOND VIDEO GAME DEVELOPMENT – June 23-27

This week introduces students to beginner level concepts of video game development.

  • Learning the building blocks of inclusive game design. Minecraft Vs. Roblox.
  • Creating engaging, challenging, and fair gameplay. What makes Mario and Sonic so successful?
  • Designing friendly user interface, replay ability, mobile/casual gaming vs. core video games, and storyboards.

WEEK 4: SAVING OUR PLANET – June 30 – July 3 (No camp July 4th in observance of the July Fourth federal holiday)

This week is geared towards activities and experiments to preserve our planet for today and tomorrow.

  • Measuring our own use and consumption of natural resources. Upcycling in San Diego’s own ecosystem and habitat fragmentation.
  • Activities using sewing materials and textile arts to create our own Symbols of Peace (planet saving rings and necklace).
  • Solar power, recycling, gardening with the greenhouse effect, habitat pollution, and reducing our carbon footprint.

Eligibility: Grades 1-5 (2024-2025) school year
Duration: 5 days (Monday – Friday)
Hours: 9:00am-4:00pm
Price: $300* per student
*Sibling and military discounts available.
