Girls Take Flight – Mid Year Update
The 10 high school girls in this year’s Girls Take Flight are in the midst of studying for FAA remote pilot certification, improving their drone pilot skills, and working on their video presentations. When asked about the experience so far, they’ve mentioned learning better study habits, better communication skills, time management, and feeling connected to their community and each other. Many girls also shared how the practicum has helped their personal growth. Ashley A. from Lincoln High School shared that “Girls Take Flight has had a big change in my life since I started. It’s been difficult, but in a good way more like challenging.”
This year’s Girls Take Flight program (part of our FIRE initiative) has been funded by the American Association of University Women, Bae Systems, The Boeing Company, the David C. Copley Foundation, General Atomics, Macy’s, Nordson, Northrup Grumman, and San Diego Gas & Electric. EIS is grateful for the generous support from these organizations.
