EIS Instructor Spotlight: Celine Holguín
Celine Holguín is a Lead STEM Educator at EIS. She started as a part time instructor in the spring of 2023 and was promoted to full time staff this year. We are thrilled to have Celine on our team. Her love of science, positive attitude, and engaging teaching style are a perfect match for our STEM programs.
Celine is a native San Diegan who earned her Bachelors in Biological Sciences from California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). While in university, she fulfilled her dream of being part of a newspaper as a writer and later a managing editor of The Cougar Chronical at CSUSM. As an avid reader, Celine was grateful to contribute to sharing trusted and diverse perspectives.
Prior to EIS, Celine worked at the San Diego River Park Foundation, San Diego Audubon Society, and Ocean Discovery Institute. During university, she made ends meet by making pizzas and to this day, she can make you a pizza from scratch. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Tijuana Estuary, participating in restoration and data collection.
STEM was a challenge that peaked her interest and she was became intrigued by biology and ecology. These subjects spurred an appreciation for making corrections to everything around her. Biology is her favorite subject to teach as she finds the curriculum makes it fun to learn science. Her motto is there is always more to learn about the world around us, and even about ourselves. In the EIS eco system, she enjoys finding insects in the garden and the opportunity to connect to the natural world.
When not at EIS, you will likely find Celine outside bird watching. You also might meet her in the field volunteering with the San Diego River Park Foundation to clean the San Diego River and doing restoration or data collection volunteer work at the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve. In addition to outdoorsy stuff, she likes baking desserts, and listening to music. A favorite group of hers is Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.
Thank you for being a part of the EIS team Celine! Te apreciamos mucho.
